Coronary Vasoconstriction in Dogs

چکیده
We determined whether a 3-minute period of intense cardiac sympathetic stimulation, which is known to release neuropeptide Y (NPY), elicits a sustained poststimulatory coronary vasoconstriction in anesthetized dogs that had received propranolol. We also periodically measured the cardiac chronotropic responses to test vagal stimulations; these responses served as an index of the neuronal release of NPY. In a group of 11 animals, the coronary vascular resistance increased by 14±4% during the sympathetic stimulation. After cessation of stimulation, however, coronary vascular resistance returned rapidly to its control value. The cardiac responses to the test vagal stimuli were attenuated by approximately 40% after cessation of sympathetic stimulation, and this inhibitory effect persisted for approximately 60 minutes. In

متن کاملEffects of morphine on coronary and left ventricular dynamics in conscious dogs.
We studied the effects of i.v. 2 mg/kg morphine sulfate (MS) on coronary blood flow and resistance, left ventricular (LV) diameter and pressure (P), rate of change of pressure (dP/dt), and dP/dt/P in conscious dogs. An initial transient reduction in coronary vascular resistance, associated with increases in heart rate, dP/dt, dP/dt/P, and reductions in LV end-diastolic and end-systolic size wer...
متن کاملEthanol causes epicardial coronary artery vasoconstriction in the intact dog.
Ethanol produces in vitro vasoconstriction of coronary arteries and can precipitate angina in patients with coronary obstructive disease. To demonstrate the in vivo effect of ethanol on coronary dynamics, baseline measurements of left anterior descending (LAD) coronary artery dimension by quantitative angiography, hemodynamics, arterial and coronary sinus blood gases, and blood ethanol levels w...
متن کاملAlpha-adrenoceptor-mediated coronary vasoconstriction is augmented during exercise in experimental diabetes mellitus.
This study tested whether alpha-adrenoceptor-mediated coronary vasoconstriction is augmented during exercise in diabetes mellitus. Experiments were conducted in dogs instrumented with catheters in the aorta and coronary sinus and with a flow transducer around the circumflex coronary artery. Diabetes was induced with alloxan monohydrate (n = 8, 40 mg/kg i.v.). Arterial plasma glucose concentrati...

This study evaluates the vasoactive effects and mechanisms of action of serotonin on epicardial arteries in awake dogs chronically instrumented with miniature piezoelectric dimension crystals on the proximal circumflex coronary artery. Serotonin (2-16 micrograms) infused as a bolus in the left atrium effected a dose-related biphasic response, which was characterized by an initial increase in ve...
